Track I: The Physician Scientist Track (Basic Science Research)
The discoveries of researchers working in basic science laboratories provide
the basis of future therapies. The power of molecular and cell biology coupled
with genomics have resulted in even more meaningful and useful research discoveries.
The Genomic Applications to Human Disease Program, formalizes the academic
training of the basic physician-scientist and provides a mechanism for combining
an outstanding basic science research experience with formal coursework in
methodologic principles of genomic research. For a few fellows, their previous
training and education may replace the coursework requirements. Our basic
science research track will provides fellows with an understanding of fundamental
molecular biology and hands-on laboratory experience needed to successfully
perform independent research. Each program, in addition, offers a curriculum
specific to its area.
